And we are back!
Hola. Buenos dias. ¿Como estas?
Hopefully you all are having a great Saturday. I know I am. By the time you read this I will be in the car driving the kiddo to take the SAT exam. Yes, she is a tad young but she is a smarty pants (she gets it from her mommy) ;-)
I am extremely happy to be back to Spanish Speaking Saturday. I enjoy writing these. Hopefully you are also enjoying them.
Today's post is all about the slang. All these words are specific to Cubans. Some say these words were created by the Cubans that immigrated to the US after the mariel boatlift in the 80s. I don't know if it's true or not but it sounds like a good theory.
Here are some of the words -
consorte- another homie
jeva - woman
yuma - foreigner
chivato - snitch
Those are some of the ones I heard/used the most while living in Miami. Also, I went to Cuba in 2004 and these were some of the common words I heard around the younger peeps. I found this handy site that has some more - the Havana Guide.
Alright asere, I am out. Happy Saturday!
