Operation Lean Out WK # 13

This has been a great week and a bad week all in one. I started the week on a great note with a workout. I have noticed that whenever I can get a workout in on a Monday, the rest of the week is easy. I don't know if this happens to everyone? Or maybe it's all mental. But in my case, it never fails.
The class I am coaching on Monday's had a 5K time trial and well, I decided to join them. The workout ended up being a fartlek of sorts, because I had to let myself fall behind at the turn around points and then quickly catch up to the leader again. We had a blast and the class was excited to get their goodies after.
Although Monday was a great day for me, Andy caught a nasty cold that had him in bed with a fever all day Monday. When I am in full fledge workout mode and training I usually don't get sick easily. This has been tried and tested with having a little one. Mini-me would often get sick and I wouldn't. With Andy, who never gets sick, I was unable to have the same outcome. I made sure to take my vitamins, eat breakfast (which usually makes me less susceptible to getting sick if something is going around) and I took Airborne. Apparently it was already too late. By Tuesday afternoon I started to feel a scratchy throat and by Wednesday I was in bed all day. :(

Here is the breakdown

Feb. 25 - 3.5 miles with class
Feb. 26 - 2.5 miles @track
Feb. 27 - Off (sick)
Feb. 28 - Off (sick)
Mar. 1 - 2.5 mile tempo run
Mar. 2 - Off
Mar. 3 - 5 miles with two hills and five surges

As you can see, I did really well getting my runs in but the my strength workouts kicked the bucket. My tempo run was also pathetic. It was my first tempo run ever and I couldn't even hit my target times. I was having a hard time breathing from my congested noggin. I was also supposed to have a 7 mile long run but that didn't happen.
Even so, I am content with my progress this week. I am still sick. Physically I feel fine but I am coughing up a storm and still have loads of congestion. I am hoping to be back at 100% soon. The cold weather here in FL isn't helping.

How did you week turn out?

  2. I hope you feel better! My week was terrible in terms of eating. I'm hoping to tackle that ASAP this week.

Great job with your workouts. I'm hoping the weather warms soon!

  4. Its no fun being sick, but especially when you're training or really trying hard to be healthy and fit when feeling like crap gets frustrating! Good job getting those runs in though despite not feeling your best.
